Eurotrip: Day 5 (Mainz, Germany)

7:00am — at breakfast. ate the usual croissant, bacon, hash browns, and fruit with oj and coffee on the side. so good, so good. my parents told me i talked in my sleep last night. LOL apparently i was mostly mumbling and the only thing they could make out was me saying “im sorry” ahahaha how weird! well anyways we’re taking off for Mainz, Germany in half an hour. i got freaking charged for the internet. what bullshit. oh well at least i torrented music off their slow ass connection.

9:00am — finally hit the german/netherlands border after the 1.5 hr bus ride. lol i fell asleep listening to joshua radin, but woke up to the tour guide asking me a question once again -_- fml its so weird. Today ive been listening to joshua radin, 3oh!3, train, kid cudi, and now cobra starship.

– OH CRAP! My tour guide says we’re passing by the area where WWII’s Operation Market Garden occurred! Lol its crazy bc in Battlefield 1942 i used to play the Op. Market Garden map. Insane!

9:53am — crazy stuff. im at a pit stop on the side of the highway and im drinking this crazy orange flavored coke. like seriously… wtf! i also saw a nutella togo pack which was weird it reminded me of yan yans. i got to the part in perks where charlie was dating mary elizabeth. they were playing truth or dare with sam and patrick and patrick dared charlie to kiss the prettiest girl in the room so, naturally, he chose to kiss sam. Oh charlie…

– i hear a faint lady gaga’s “paparazzi” playing in the background. I suppose its only natural that a lot of american music is successful internationally, but i suppose its just out of my natural state of mind. In other words its not exactly something we think about on an every day basis, so it sortof catches you off guard.

11:17am — i just finished perks while stuck in traffic in germany. i suppose it was a hopeful ending. There really isnt much more to say and i typically feel this way after finishing books or watching movies that make me reflect and relate the story to my own life. One part of perks that made me reflect, for instance, was when charlies sister told him that mary elizabeth was trying to expose him to new things and “take control” bc she had poor self esteem. That part made me wonder about myself bc i often find myself controlling situations; however, unlike mary elizabeth i do believe im also fine sitting back going with the flow of things.

– Something else that occurred to me was charlies reaction to bill complimenting him saying charlie is one of the smartest people hes ever met and that charlie is special. Charlie reacted favorably to that and it made him feel great. It also goes back to last years talks with ryon how he would talk about not getting complimented enough daily. I agreed back then and i still do, but why does society make it feel so weird to put yourself out there and make someone else (possibly even a stranger) feel great about themself?

1:45pm — well im bored. we’re traveling to Mainz, Germany and i fell asleep but also the countryside drive is just so freaking boring. Lol just saw a car carrying truck with a full load of smart cars. Anyways im kinda homesick. We stopped in Cologne, Germany for lunch and while the city is a modern metropolitan, it just kinda reminded me of Amsterdam and London which — while both are great cities –made me remember that its been my 5th day away from home. Or maybe its that everything is so foreign and my parents cant seem to adapt to the environment.

– No wonder europeans think americans are loud and obnoxious bc thats exactly the way my parents act here.

– lol my tour guide just said shes part of church of england. reminded me of “cake or death” hahaha…

6:45pm — just arrived at the hotel from our river cruise down the Rhein river in Germany. Was boring. Though i must say this… while the tour attractions seem to get more and more boring, the hotels keep getting nicer!

9:00pm — my parents and i walked by the river post-dinner and we saw all the germans congregating at bars and beach huts watching the holland vs. uruguay match. lol crazy germans. i really like it here too. im surprised im enjoying so many european cities. all the women here are tall, blonde, and beautiful. ive never felt so avg’d height in my life lol.

– i sat at dinner with this old timer from australia who came here with his daughter and grand daughter. turns out hes really rich and was some sort of financial investor.

– im extremely sad bc i didnt get to buy some sort of alcoholic memorabelia in germany. hopefully i will get a chance tmrw but my chances are looking slim.

10:00pm — last note before i sleep, i had a really bad hair day today. I wish i did my hair better but i had to deal with looking like a fob today. sigh lets hope tmrw is better…
